Function
Functions as a lectin that binds to selective commensal dental plaque bacteria, such as Streptococcus vestibularis. Contributes to maintain homeostasis in the oral microbiome by capturing commensal microbes and regulating their growth using a mucin-assisted clearance mechanism. Plays an important role in pancreatic tumor progression and metastasis.
Biological Context
Subcellular Location: Secreted; Cytoplasm; Cell membrane; Apicolateral cell membrane
Tissue Specificity: Highly expressed in pancreatic cancer tissues (at protein levels). Also expressed in the placenta and colon and ovarian cancer tumors. Highly expressed in salivary glands, in submandibular and sublingual glands
