Major envelope protein present in abundant amounts in the virion envelope. Mediates virion sialic acid-dependent attachment the sialoadhesin receptor SIGLEC1. This attachment induces virion internalization into alveolar macrophages predominantly through clathrin-dependent endocytosis.
