Function

(Microbial infection) Forms amyloid beta-sheet fibrils in semen. These fibrils, termed SEVI (semen-derived enhancer of viral infection) capture HIV virions, attach them to target cells and enhance infection. SEVI amyloid fibrils are degraded by polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a constituent of green tea.

Biological Context

Subcellular Location: Cell membrane (Single-pass type I membrane protein); Lysosome membrane (Single-pass type I membrane protein); Nucleus; Cytoplasm, cytosol
Tissue Specificity: Widely expressed. Expressed in the sarcolemma of skeletal muscle

Product Specifications

Recombinant Human Prostatic acid phosphatase (ACP3)-VLPs Protein is a recombinant protein from Homo sapiens (Human), expressed in Mammalian cell, covering amino acids 33-418aa, with N-terminal 10xHis-tagged(This tag can be tested only under denaturing conditions) tag, molecular weight 47.5kDa. Suitable for ELISA and Western Blot applications.

Recommended applications depend on the target, product format, and product-specific validation data. Refer to the product datasheet or Certificate of Analysis (CoA), or contact BioCrest Sci for application guidance.

Biological Activity: Not implied unless activity data are explicitly listed on this product page, the datasheet, or the CoA.

Protein Biology

Function

(Microbial infection) Forms amyloid beta-sheet fibrils in semen. These fibrils, termed SEVI (semen-derived enhancer of viral infection) capture HIV virions, attach them to target cells and enhance infection (PubMed:18083097, PubMed:19451623, PubMed:19897482). SEVI amyloid fibrils are degraded by polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a constituent of green tea (PubMed:19451623). Assembly of SEVI amyloid fibrils and their amplification of HIV infection is inhibited by WW61, a non-natural hexapeptide inhibitor (Trp-His-Lys-chAla-Trp-hydroxyTic) (PubMed:21677644). The target cell attachment and enhancement of HIV infection is also inhibited by surfen (PubMed:19897482). Also similarly boosts XMRV (xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus) infection (PubMed:19403677)

Subcellular Location

Tissue Specificity

Widely expressed. Expressed in the sarcolemma of skeletal muscle

Subunit

Homodimer; dimer formation is required for phosphatase activity

Gene: ACP3  |  Organism: Homo sapiens  |  Synonyms: 5'-nucleotidase; Acid phosphatase 3; Ecto-5'-nucleotidase; Protein tyrosine phosphatase ACP3; Thiamine monophosphatase
