Function

RNA chaperone that binds small regulatory RNA (sRNAs) and mRNAs to facilitate mRNA translational regulation in response to envelope stress, environmental stress and changes in metabolite concentrations. Involved in the regulation of stress responses mediated by the sigma factors RpoS, sigma-E and sigma-32. Binds with high specificity to tRNAs.

Product Specifications

Recombinant Escherichia coli RNA-binding protein Hfq (hfq) is a recombinant protein from Escherichia coli (strain K12), expressed in E.coli, covering amino acids 2-102aa, with N-terminal 10xHis-tagged and C-terminal Myc-tagged tag, molecular weight 18.5kDa, purity Greater than 85% as determined by SDS-PAGE.. Suitable for ELISA and Western Blot applications.

SDS-PAGE: Single band at expected molecular weight confirming purity.

ELISA: Suitable as coating antigen or detection standard.

Western Blot: Compatible with standard Western Blot protocols.

Protein Interaction: Validated for SPR (Surface Plasmon Resonance) and BLI (Bio-Layer Interferometry) studies.

Shipping: Shipped at ambient temperature. Lyophilized protein is stable during transit.

Storage: Store lyophilized protein at -20°C to -80°C. Reconstituted protein should be aliquoted and stored at -80°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Shelf Life: 12 months from date of receipt when stored as recommended.

Function

RNA chaperone that binds small regulatory RNA (sRNAs) and mRNAs to facilitate mRNA translational regulation in response to envelope stress, environmental stress and changes in metabolite concentrations. Involved in the regulation of stress responses mediated by the sigma factors RpoS, sigma-E and sigma-32 (PubMed:17158661). Binds with high specificity to tRNAs (PubMed:18230766). Binds sRNA antitoxin RalA (PubMed:24748661). In vitro, stimulates synthesis of long tails by poly(A) polymerase I (PubMed:10677490). Required for RNA phage Qbeta replication (PubMed:805130). Seems to play a role in persister cell formation; upon overexpression decreases persister cell formation while deletion increases persister formation (PubMed:19909729)
