Function
G protein-coupled receptor for parathyroid hormone (PTH) and for parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHLH). Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of downstream effectors, such as adenylate cyclase (cAMP). PTH1R is coupled to G(s) G alpha proteins and mediates activation of adenylate cyclase activity.
Biological Context
Subcellular Location: Cell membrane (Multi-pass membrane protein)
Tissue Specificity: High levels in the kidney, with much lower levels in aorta, heart, lung, prostate, testis, and skeletal muscle
