Function
Stimulates the proliferation of early hematopoietic cells by activating FLT3. Synergizes well with a number of other colony stimulating factors and interleukins. Required for the development of B cells, and dendritic cells (DCs).
Biological Context
Subcellular Location: Secreted
Disease Association: Immunodeficiency 125 (IMD125) : An autosomal recessive immunologic disorder characterized by failure to thrive and chronic diarrhea in infancy, and recurrent bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. Patients have severe human papilloma virus (HPV) infections with disseminated common warts, and the bone marrow is hypoplastic with low levels of CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells. Counts of B cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells are low in patients blood. [The disease may be caused by variants affecting the gene represented in this entry]
