Function
Functions as a cytokine that binds to the LIF receptor complex. The LIF receptor complex indeed consists of two signaling receptor subunits IL6ST/gp130 and LIFR that transduce the signal into the cell. Functionnally, acts as a potent cardiac survival factor, and promotes cardiomyocyte proliferation and hypertrophy.
Biological Context
Subcellular Location: Secreted
Tissue Specificity: Expressed in the ventricle and atrium of adult rats. Also detected in the lung, kidney, liver, skeletal muscle, stomach and urinary bladder. Not detected in brain, colon, testis, spleen or thymus. Overexpressed in the ventricles in the case of hypertension and hypertrophy
